The Specialized Stumpjumper Comp Alloy 29 in test. 29er hoops steamroll over rocks and roots with ease and maintain their momentum in tough terrain. Was running the settings suggested by Specialized for my weight, 260psi or so, felt spot on.
From short after-work rides, alpine tours over several days to a hard-riding shuttle day, this bike can do it all. However, it is still worthwhile pushing the saddle forward so as not to pedal with too much of your weight over the rear.

The slacker head angle will put more weight behind the front axle on steeper trails so you don't have to change body position as much and the fork will bind less. Specialized is calling its new Stumpjumper line “the ultimate trail bike”, and this Stumpjumper Comp Carbon 29 hits that mark pretty much … I tested the Expert 29 which features a 12-speed SRAM GX Eagle drivetrain, RockShox Pike RC fork, carbon Roval wheels, a Specialized Command dropper post, and SRAM Guide R brakes. There is only one thing to say about the riding position: ultra comfortable.
Essentially unchanged from 2012, the Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Comp Evo is the cheaper of two Evo models, and gets an M5 aluminium, rather than FACT carbon frame. It seems with the evo specialized is putting an experimental bike into serial production, which is cool. Stumpjumper Evo was a test ballon and it showed that within a season Spec can easily pull off new molds for making a carbon version.
It is in no way extreme and that is its greatest strength. The 2.6-inch tires combined with the softer, gently poppy FSR linkage made for a backslapping high-five party on greater-than-XC-but-less-than-all-mountain terrain.
