An MAF actually measures real air volume so that the computer doesn't need to guess what it might be. While a MAF sensor is always located before the throttle body, a MAP sensor can usually be found attached to the intake manifold. You can usually tell if you have a MAP sensor if you cannot find a MAF sensor in the intake air tube before the throttle body.
Remember, the MAP sensor above measured intake manifold pressure / vacuum and then estimated air volume with computer software. Custom stuff can be made to make a MAP engine run as well, or better than a MAF engine, but that level of customization is, in my opinion, better spent on a MAF … In the case of a naturally aspirated vehicle, the MAP sensor will read vacuum only.

Replacing a mass air flow sensor is fairly straight forward, so most of the cost comes from the cost of the part, and not the labor.
